The Story:

There are many choices for what many describe as Mediterranean fare in Portland. Each culture though has their own flare and technique and creations. 7 Hills Turkish Grill offers up authentic Turkish dishes out of their bright yellow truck off Division.

With a rather large menu, one can enjoy a kebab, some borak or just a simple dessert of baklava. Partners Oguz and Asil have always wanted to bring the taste of Turkey to Portland and are always excited to share the flavors and stories of the food. The name – 7 Hills Turkish Grill – comes from the seven hills of Istanbul. The seven hills first appeared when the valleys of the Golden Horn and the Bosphorus were opened up during the Secondary and Tertiary periods in the Ottoman, as in the earlier Byzantine period. Now that is a name with some weight.

The day we visited, we were on our way home after gorging ourselves on some excellent food out east, but still had some room for dessert. After reviewing the menu, I questioned if I could do a kebab, but ended up just getting the baklava and that was all I needed to know these two guys create some amazing food. Four great chunks of filo layered with nuts and syrup, this is one of those desserts you don’t mind getting all over your fingers and enjoying every last bit.

7 Hills Turkish celebrated their first year here this month and have proven they have what it takes to feed Portland’s eaters. Check them out next time your down that way and let them know Food Carts Portland sent ya.

  1. Oh man, I’ll have to try this! I’m moving to Portland and I love turkish food.

  2. Bertha Pearl says

Everything is excellent! They cooked at my favorite Turkish restaurant in Brooklyn, Sahara’s…and I hope they decide to make the swordfish kebabs one day!

  3. Joseph Jankowski says

This is one of the best Mediterranean carts in Portland. Their falafel and Baklava is among the best I’ve ever had. Everything I’ve tried there has been excellent. This is not a food cart to miss.
