The Story:

With a slogan of “Lovingly Handmade, Sweet and Savory, For Here or Home,” Crust and Common Pie Shop knows how to craft words to get you to try their craft. And they are spot on.

Crust and Common Pie Shop opened earlier this year in Sellwood, but has recently moved to their new home in NW Portland. Bradley Jones is the man in the cart surrounded by pies. Who wouldn’t want to spend their day baking pies and then have them at your fingertips. I know I would. Bradley had been working in restaurants for a few years and wanted to head out on his own, so launched the cart. With a menu featuring meat pies, vegetable pies, fruit pies, cream pies and soups and salads, there’s something for 99% of the eaters out there.

Potato Cheddar Pie

Potato Cheddar Pie

When I think of pie, my mind’s eye pictures a large fruit pie with a gingerbread crust and fruit bubbling out a crack in the top. Bradley has one of those for you. His fruit and cream pies are the traditional larger size so you can get a slice and feel like your in your grandma’s kitchen. For the savory pies, he makes them a bit smaller, but still in the form of a pie. We enjoyed the potato cheddar pie the day we visited. I was initially apprehensive because I’m not normally a fan of baked potato dishes, but when I took that first bite of the flaky crust and the potatoes mixed with cheddar and some herbs, I was hooked. I barely shared with my lunchmate. One pie is enough for one person, but get a couple different kinds so you can share. I’m looking forward to visiting again for some pecan or maybe pumpkin now that it is the season.

Crust and Common Pie Shop takes pie to a whole new level for me. I have a freezer full of fruit from this summer’s bounty and now I want to visit Bradley to get all his secret baking recipes and bake some pie. Head on down to Q-19 and give Crust and Common a try. Bradley does offer whole pies to go if you’re looking to bring one home to the family or just take it back to your office and indulge. Let them know Food Carts Portland sent ya.

Do you think you will ever ship to other states? They look so good. Good Luck. I will tell my friends in Portland to go there.

  3. I was there the other day, and had a slice of the pecan. SO SO SO GOOD! Gooey and nutty and sweet. Delicious.
