GCG Turns Two, 3rd Wednesday and Cupcakes

The Grilled Cheese Grill is entering their terrible twos today, 4/20. I had the opportunity two years ago to sit down with Matt Breslow, the owner and creator, and chat with him about what he was working on. He had a dream to open a restaurant, but the economy became a roadblock and the Grilled Cheese Grill compound on NE Alberta and 11th was born. Now they have a second location at SE 28th and Ankeny with a London double decker bus. Way to go guys. Visit either location today and all sandwiches are $4.20. Happy Birthday.

Today is Third Wednesday where a group of carts donate a portion of their sales and tips to a local charity. This month’s recipient is Street Roots. The carts involved are:

  • Whiffies Fried Pies at SE 12th and Hawthorne
  • Big-Ass Sandwiches at SW 3rd and Ash
  • The Kettle Kitchen at SW 9th and Alder
  • Ninja Plate Lunch at SW 3rd and Ash
  • Wet Hot Beef at SW 10th and Washington
  • Give Pizza a Chance at SW 5th and Stark
  • The Big Egg at N Mississippi and Skidmore

Support these carts today as they continue to support our community needs.

After a winter slumber, a cookbook and a move, The Sugar Cube re-opens today at their new location at Good Food Here on SE 43rd and Belmont. Kir Jensen has been hard at work all winter on her new cookbook, but knows Portland needs its Amy Winehouse Cupcakes. If you’ve never enjoyed the love Kir puts into her treats, you are truly missing out. The Sugar Cube’s hours will be Wednesday-Sunday, 12:30-8pm.
