Some news and an announcement:

DC Vegetarian Italian Sub

DC Vegetarian Italian Sub

DC Vegetarian is doing its 1st Annual food drive this Friday and next (Nov. 13 and 20) at the cart to support the Oregon Food Bank. DC Vegetarian makes some great sandwiches and if you bring in a donation, you’ll get half off. Nice! The Oregon Food Bank is most in need of the following:

  • canned and boxed meals: soup, chili, stew, macaroni & cheese
  • canned or dried beans and peas: black, pinto, lentils
  • pasta, rice, cereal
  • canned fruits
  • 100 percent fruit juice: canned, plastic or boxed
  • cooking oil

Such a great idea and I commend DC Vegetarian for doing this. I know where I’m eating Friday. DC Vegetarian is located on SW 3rd and Stark and is open from 11am-4pm.

Parkers Waffles left a cryptic message on their Facebook page on Tuesday announcing that they have “something groovy” for today (Thursday) and want you to swing by – it’s going to be free. Not sure what it is, but heck, free is a good price and Parkers is tasty. Parkers Waffles is located at SW 4th and Hall down by PSU.

We have a winner for our Northwest Food and Wine festival tickets. Elisabeth Flaum submitted a great essay on why she loves Portland’s food carts. Her story will be published later today. We received 19 submissions, all of them wonderful. I want to thank everyone who participated and Buick for providing the tickets. I also want to thank the judges: Lizzy, Anna, Rick Turoczy, Cari, and FoodDude. Check back later as we may publish some of the other submission.
