Some carts have either moved or changed it up. Their listings have been updated:
- The Limp Noodle has setup a permanent location at SW 3rd and Ash.
- The Empress is now located at SE 11th and Clay, just south of Hawthorne and has a compound for seating.
- Nuevo Mexico has moved to Mississippi Marketplace at N. Mississippi and Skidmore and is slated to open very soon.
- Dreamer’s cafe is closed and from what I have heard, the cart is up for sale on Craigslist.

Other tidbits:
- El Masrey Egyptian is closed for the next month for vacation. From a sign on their cart, they will reopen on Nov. 1 with a new menu.
- Whiffies Fried Pies is doing collaboration week this week with the winner of the Portland Pie Off – Chefchopper. Head on down for some tasty pies at SE 12th and Hawthorne.
- NW 22nd and Raleigh is becoming a little food cart nexus. I visited for the first time yesterday and there are 3 food carts setup – The Frying Scotsman, The Fried Onion and a Bento place up by 23rd. More field trips are in order.
- I discovered a blog by a future food cartrepreneur who is building his cart from the ground up. I’m excited to see where he lands and what he’ll offer. To have the skills to build a cart tells me you may have mad skills in the kitchen. Check out PDXPicNic, “The blog of a budding Portland food cart.”
- Gourmet magazine did a whole week on street food, highlighting some of Portland’s gems. Check out the article to see what other cities offer.

Lastly, with autumn here and winter not to far away, I’ll let you in on a secret – indoor dining options. In downtown, there are a few places that are open and dry where you can go and freely enjoy your food cart nosh. The US Bank Tower on SW 5th and Oak has a large spot on the 2nd floor that is actually a city park. Up by SW 10th and Alder is the atrium for The Galleria building – tables, chairs etc. Down by PSU at 4th and College, cross 4th ave from the carts and head into the cities Bureau of Planning building to the basement. Plenty of tables and chairs to get out of the rain. There are more and we’ll be writing an article soon so you can be prepared for the rain.
That’s about it. There is obviously more, so when it comes up, we’ll let you know. If you hear of new carts or news about carts, drop us a quick note via the contact form. Enjoy the carts and tell them Food Carts Portland sent ya.
Wait..carts in NW? Any idea if they are just lunch places or if they have more expanded hours?
On a rainy day, the 9th floor of the Mark O Hatfield is supposed to be great. Problem is that you have to go through TSA-like security to get into the building. It’s possible they might take your plastic knives and forks!
Hi, the 3 carts on NW Raleigh between 22nd and 23rd are open M-F from around 10 ish to 2. I do know that James at the Frying Scotsman will be trying out Saturday lunch this week (Oct. 3rd) to see how the response is during the weekend. His hours are 11 to 2.
Thanks.
The Bento guy has been at that location for a long time, about two years I believe.
The Fried Onion has moved quite a bit lately, it was up near Food Front from what I understand for several years. It then moved to a parking lot down on 23rd right across from McMenamins, about six months ago.
They then just recently moved down to the NW 22nd location about a month ago.
Their sausages are pretty good, but not outstanding. Their selling point for me is location, and the owners are very nice to talk too, especially on dreary days.
