Honkin’ Huge Burritos!

Honkin' Huge Burritos

CLOSED 2017 after 25 years

Location: Pioneer Courthouse Square – Downtown Portland

Description: Shelly’s Garden, another name for Honkin’ Huge Burritos has been serving up some of the best burritos in Portland for 17 years. I remember when I was in my last year of school coming down for an anti-war protest and trying one of her gems. I was hooked. There are only a few carts in Portland that keep me coming back and Honkin’ Huge Burritos is one of them.

A Honkin’ Huge Burrito features a grilled flour tortilla with refried pinto beans, fresh Spanish rice, cheddar cheese, guacamole, romaine lettuce, tomato salsa, and sour cream/or yogurt. There is usually an additional fresh salsa you can add if you choose. Do you see how simple that is? At first glance, many wonder – where’s the meat? Honestly, you don’t need it. An HH burrito will fill you and your small family up with leftovers. Seriously, I ordered a large once and had it for 3 days. I always order a small and still it is too much and I like to eat!

Thank you Shelly Sandoval and your Honkin’ Huge Burritos for being such a mainstay in downtown Portland this past 17 years. You probably have some great stories. Go check this gem out and support a long time Portland Food Cart.

Burrito: Small – $5.75; Medium – $6.25; Honkin’ Huge – $6.75

Hours: Weekdays at lunchtime.

  1. Hey GBF – First huge portions of pasta in cardboard boxes, now burritos as big as my shin?

  2. I have been to Honkin’ Huge (what an apt name) and they are awesome. Fresh ingredients all the way. I don’t miss the meat at all. Thanks for shining some light their way.

  3. Shelly’s has been a mainstay in my life in Portland for all of the 17 years she’s been at it. I quite literally lived on nothing else for a bit in my late teens, and I still enjoy going back once every few weeks for my meatless burrito fix. Shelly herself is a kick, and will make he experience all the better. I realize that this is the first comment on this post in over a year, but I thought it needed to be added.

  4. I had a Honking Huge burrito today and it was fantastic. Love the grilled tortilla. Love that there’s no big choices to make- when you’re hungry, no decisions- just get a HONKER!

  5. My husband and I SHARED a Honkin’ Huge ‘Salad’ (sans the tortilla) during 30 HOURS in Pioneer Square this weekend and were WOWED by it! We are natives and have never been to Shellys. That is going to change! A delicious, flavorful value! Met my healthful tastes as well as my husbands HONKIN’ tastebuds!

If you’re broke, they hook you up with the stuff they would throw away at the end of the day. You kept me nourished one summer. I love you Honkin’ Huge Burrito’s.

  7. Jesse Knauff says

Honkin Huge Burrito’s is the best cart in downtown. I mean what else could you ask for, a Delicious as well Burrito at a great price served up by one of the sweetest Ladies you could ever meet. So go get yourself one, you’ll be glad you did.

  8. I just went here again for my 4th time and got a Honkin’s size during the Sand Castle building. I ate half of it and I have to save the rest for later. I joked to my partner, healthy food is healthy food… and 10lbs of food is still 10lbs of food. I love this place.

I have known Shelly from Honkin’ Huge Burritos for about 13 years now. I have been one of her very satisfied and loyal customers ever since I met her and I must and will say I am a customer for LIFE. She is hands down the best burrito lady in all of Portland. She puts the perfect amount of ingredients into her burritos. And she also is hands down one of the greatest people ever. She is so positive and so great to everyone she meets. If you guys out there are a huge fan of Mexican Food, stop on by her Honkin’ Huge Burrito Food Cart for either a late lunch or early dinner. You will be very happy that you did. I highly recommend her. Here’s to you Shelly. Magnifico!!
