Food Cart News Roundup
The Portland Summer Food Cart Festival is coming next weekend, June 22 at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham. The 2nd annual event is a fundraiser for ALSO
, a not for profit organization that provides supported living, residential and vocational services to people with developmental challenges. The festival will feature 20 of Portland's food carts, a beer garden, local live music and a kid's zone. Yep, a family friendly food cart festival. Last year's event drew almost 4000 people and this year promises to be even bigger and better. Some of the food carts participating include Cafe du Crepe, A Cajun Life, Gaufre Gourmet, Moberi, Stumplings and Taco Pedaler. VIP tickets are only $20 and General Admission is $5.

Pendleton Pie
The Honey Pot Bakery
is quickly expanding. Earlier in spring, owner Mary Sheridan debuted her new mobile Honey Pot Bakery food truck. Shortly thereafter, she announced she's opening a cafe and bakery on N Mississippi. That's my neighborhood. I'm so excited to have her Pendleton pie so close. Look for the food truck at different events this summer.

The Willamette Week broke the news this week that Green Castle on NE 20th and Everett will close at the end of summer. This will be the second time this food cart lot has closed in the past two years. The owner of the lot will be developing it for apartments. This is the third food cart lot to close to make way for development. As the economy warms up, we may see more and more of these types of transitions. Don't fret, food carts are here to stay in Portland. There will always be a home for them.

With the news of one food cart lot closing, we learn the Central Eastside Food Cart Pod has opened with six vendors. Vendors include Scoop Handmade Ice Cream, Castle Cauldron, El Local, Sila Thai, Taqueria Las Piedritas and Rockin' Robyn's BBQ Bento. More details about the pod can be found at CEFoodCarts.com
