Rose City Food Park

If you’ve lived in the Rose City neighborhood or Hollywood district for more than a few years, you may have fond memories of the Rose City Bowling Alley on NE Sandy. A place for the neighborhood to gather for many years, when it burned down in the 90’s, a stark vacant lot was left. Fast forward to 2012 and that vacant lot is being given another chance to serve the community.

The Rose City Food Park
is celebrating their grand opening on October 20 with food carts, a performance space, a kid’s play area, a place to walk your dog, covered seating and plenty of onsite parking for both your bike and car. Captured by Porches will also be onsite with beer. The food carts have also pledged to use 100% compostable containers. From the developers who brought us Green Castle, the lot has been completely re-done to place water and electrical underground and bring in a vibrant array of plantings and shrubs to give it new life. Surrounded on two sides by stark concrete walls, you’ll now be greeted by a bright welcoming mural by a local artist.

Rose City Food Park has space for an initial 14 food carts with the goal of expanding. Located right on Sandy Blvd in NE Portland at 52nd, between the Bike Gallery and Laurelwood Brew Pub with Hollywood Fitness as a very close neighbor. There isn’t a food cart within miles, so this is the place to be for the underserved neighborhood. For the vendors, the lot offers on-site greywater disposal and parking. If you’re interested in vending at the lot, spots are filling up fast, contact Rose City Food Park at 503-358-0705 or email Kate at [email protected].
