West Side POD, Off the Griddle and other News

All of you west siders who want street food options in the neighborhoods in southwest or the hills may get your wishes granted. A new cart pod is taking shape in Hillsdale and looking at a mid-September opening date. According to the Oregonian, the lot by Wilson High School will have three carts including Violetta, the restaurant/truck with the tasty burgers. We’ll keep you posted when we learn more details.

Off the Griddle has launched a Kickstarter campaign to open a restaurant in their ever expanding empire. They started with a cart, opened a cafe (A.N.D.) and now are looking to create “the most sustainable restaurant in Portland, Or. Green, Local, Vegetarian, Vegan, Awesomeness!” Pretty cool guys. I love seeing dreams like this come true. More details can be found at Kickstarter.

Fifty Licks has announced they are looking to open an Ice Cream Shop beyond the truck in 2013. I know I’m looking forward to that, how about you?

Fried Green Tomato in Lardo topped with Chicharron

Visited San Francisco this weekend for the San Francisco Street Food Festival. Charles Thomas from Euro Trash and Trey Corkern from The Swamp Shack rocked the festival all day Saturday and had some of the longest lines of the 80 vendors. 80,000 people wandered the streets enjoying live music and eating from the vendors. Trey sold around 1500 crawfish boudin balls and Charles was on the path to sell upwards of 2000 prawn baguette sandwiches. A crazy day with some great street food options. The craziest and tastiest item I found was a green tomato slice fried in lardo and topped with chicharron. Yup, decadent. We’ll have some video up soon of the event.

Enjoy your week.
