The Story:

Portland loves its Hawaiian food. Over the years, there have been a few restaurants and carts came next and now we added the third to the 10th and Alder pod – Love My Bento.

Bento was one of the first meals I remember eating from a food cart in the 90′s. Back then, it was hot dogs, noodles and bento types of rice bowls. Since that time, the street food scene has transformed, introducing us to so many new foods. One forgets the simplicity and enjoyment of a dish of rice and meat. Love My Bento has that and more.

Spicy Pork Bento

Spicy Pork Bento

With a menu of burgers, bento and sides, you can get a full plate or a few different items. I was initially drawn to Brandon’s Burger with teriyaki ground beef and spicy grilled pickled onions, but the bento was calling my name. One can choose from chicken teriyaki to shoyu chicken or get a couple of types of pork – kalua or spicy. I picked the spicy pork which was served with a generous amount of rice and a side of macaroni salad. The pork was enjoyable with each forkful mixed with a bit of rice then followed by some salad. It was adequately spicy, but not burn your tongue heat and when it got a bit too hot, I just ate some more salad and it dulled the heat. A good amount of food for $7.

Love My Bento is now open right on the corner of SW 9th and Alder and are ready to feed you. Let them know Food Carts Portland sent ya.
