Azul Tequila Mexican Taqueria
Location: SE 50th, South of Division
Hours: Everyday, 10am-9pm
The Story:
In the shadow of Mt. Tabor, a new pod is taking shape just south of Division St. on 50th. With a mixture of trucks, buses and carts new and old, every pod needs a Mexican taqueria and Azul Tequila fills that need.

Spicy Tinga and Machaca Tacos from Azul Tequila
Azul Tequila is a family affair with the mother and father doing the cooking and their son taking orders and serving the customers. When we arrived, they were making the fresh guacamole included in many of their dishes. Everyone was genuinely happy to see us at 11am that Friday morning on the still quiet lot. Lately, when I visit Mexican trucks, I am looking for choices beyond the traditional tacos with asada or carnitas. I have been branching out to chorizo and lengua if it is offered in order to expand my palate. Friday was a taco day and after reading the choices, I saw something new – spicy tinga and machaca. I have had machaca before – a shredded beef scramble with jack cheddar cheese, but spicy tinga, a spicy shredded chicken with queso fresco and pico de gallo, was different. The service was quick and the tacos fresh. The tinga was the favorite of the day with the dry queso crumbles mixing with the shredded spicy chicken. Add in some Cholula and wham, your tongue is afire.
Azule Tequila is more than just tacos. The broad menu includes burritos, quesadillas, salads, enchiladas, torta and cubana sandwiches and even desserts like flan and honeycake. Something for everyone including a vegan/vegetarian section of the menu. Being one of the only carts open at 10am, Azul Tequila should do some brisk business for that early lunch crowd. If you’re in the neighborhood, visit the A la Cart pod and tell them Food Carts Portland sent ya.

“you are” tongue is afire?
The taco salad @$5.50 with the chicken was fairly decent — not bad not great. The two sauces both seemed equally hot. They need a milder sauce too. I tried a dessert that was somewhat like a flan @$3 which probably should be cheaper since we are talking cartfood. It was decent too. Overall: another one of the many basic Mexican food carts. This cart was very clean.
we are working on a lot of things, one is the sause, and we will see if we can give you better price on the dessert , and thanks for yours coments.
We had dessert here tonight and I have to say both the flan and honey cake were well worth $3. Portions are large (each is enough for 2 if you’ve eaten dinner), and the quality is good. The flan has a nice caramelized flavor. The honey cake was our favorite- 5 or 6 layers of thin honey-soaked (but not soggy) cake separated by very tasty vanilla frosting. I think it’s rare to find homemade desserts of this quality for the price.
thank you
The grilled veggie burrito was delicious and very fulfilling. I loved the salsas, too.
Very nice addition to the ‘hood!
we came down Friday night and had a wonderful time great job guys
Been there twice already and love it! There’s something extra fresh and extra tasty about it. Burritos, which I usually find ho-hum and dry elsewhere, are really moist and wonderful here.
I’ll be back!
thank you guys!!!!
