The Story:

Every so often, you just need a simple burger and fries. There are a few carts that offer some great burgers in Portland, but few offer the additional tasty additions we have come to enjoy. The Burger Jerk, a newcomer to the scene is here to sate that simple joy – a burger with tots.

A good burger for me is usually a 1/3 lb patty with cheddar cheese. If we’re talking gourmet, I usually forgo the lettuce and tomato in order to savor both the meat and the bun choices the chef has made for me.  At The Burger Jerk, they keep it simple with a good sesame seed bun toasted, a grilled all beef patty, a large slice of tomato, a chunk of onion, some leaf lettuce and condiments. As honest a burger as you can get – like mom used to make. Add in some fresh tater tots and you have yourself a great little meal. For $5, you can’t go wrong. When I took the first bite mixing the cool tomato and onion with the warm burger, I couldn’t help remembering when McDonald’s tried the “cool side cool and the hot side hot” campaign. Uh oh, I may be dating myself.

The new burger cart took over the Thai cart that made its home on the corner of SW 4th and College for many years. The new owners have completely repainted it and installed a large awning so you can enjoy your burger out of the rain. With additional topping choices which could include bacon, a fried egg, turkey, avocado, mushrooms or peppers, you can build a pretty delectable sandwich. They offer Boca burgers for those vegetarians in line. Check out the newest burger cart on the block and let them know Food Carts Portland sent ya.

Saw this cart the other day but couldn’t find any info on it. It’s close to work, so good to hear it’s tasty. Have to check it out.

I’ve been here a few times since they opened and man are they great! I suggest trying the baconarian like author has mentioned but the best is the owner seems to have a good knack for hiring hot asian girls to help him! glad to see you guys feature them here!

Tried this place today. Got the Californian (bacon and avocado with other normal toppings). It was AWESOME. The burger itself was delicious, and the fries were surprisingly good. It took a while to get the food, so if you’re in a hurry it might not be the best, but if you’re not in a rush and want a good burger, this is the place to go.

We went here on Friday and was very busy so we had to wait a bit, like between 5 and 10 minutes, but it was SO WORTH THE WAIT! I had the Fat Ass jerk and my ladyfriend had the special of the day: chili cheese burger. Both were very goood. you’ll be surprised how big the burgers are here for the price i fully reccomend you try them out!

went here for lunch and got a cheeseburger with pepper jack with tots. OMG the tots were so good. The burger itself was bursting with flavor…. and not overdone with condiments, which i hate. i was also completely stuffed by the end of the deliciousness, and the burger burps ever since have me craving another! not sure if it was the owner helping me but the man was very friendly and accomodating. eat here!

I was the only customer and had to wait a fair amount of time for my burger. But it was so worth it! Best burger I have had in a long time. Handmade patty, loaded with fresh veggies. The option of tots was nice to have. $6 for my mushroom swiss burger that was as good as you’d find any a quality restaurant. Highly recommended.

Hey guys, thanks for all your great feedback. We have been working hard to take care of the amount of time it takes to cook our fresh burgers and we would like to invite you back to try us if you’ve been avoiding us because of the wait. We love that you guys think we have the best burgers, because, WE DO! And, thank you FCP for putting us up here in the first place! we look forward to seeing new faces as well as the regulars. Thank You! -the Jerk

I went to this cart on the day they opened – really good burger! I haven’t seen them open since. I hope they stick around.

We are back. We are Buger Jerk, come see us. We live!

  10. Scott says:

I was stoked to see that they were back in business, so I wasted $6 on a charcoaled chunk of meat on a crappy bun. Tasted like burnt grease. I saw a guy with a McDonald’s bag afterwards and wished I would have bought a ‘burger’ from there, and I hate McDonald’s haven’t eaten there for years.

Save your money, if you really want a burger there’s a McMenamins a few blocks away, or get a Torta from the Mexican cart at the north end of the block.

stopped by here today after a recommendation from a co-worker. this was definitely one of the best burgers ive ever had. i was leery about having another burger from a foodcart after a bad experience at a nearby cart but gave these guys a shot. it was very good and i plan on having them again. two thumbs up!!!

Burger thirst officially sated! Excellent value! I will be back…

  13. I’m sad to report that “The Burger Jerk” is out of business.

The cart’s been closed for the past few days and today I found it stripped down and being repainted for its new owners. The painters said that the cart will repoen soon as the second “Nong’s Khao Man Gai” location. They had no idea if “The Burger Jerk” would reopen elsewhere, but said that many of its patrons were upset that this delightful burger cart is gone.

I really liked the “The Burger Jerk” and hope its friendly owners give it another try.

  14. Burger girl says:

This was the only burger cart I knew of that had pork patties available in a burger (no beef). I don’t eat beef, but I dislike veggie burgers, so this place was heaven to me…..Do any of you guys know of another burger cart that has pork patties? Please let me know….I’m desperate for another good burger, no beef please! :P
