Weekend Food Cart Tidbits

Some news from the foodcartosphere:

This just in. Yogio, that great Korean cart, tweeted Thursday that North Station now has beer. I knew that Depokos Pizza had put in for a liquor license and was doing the OLCC dance, yet the last time I was there, no beer was present. I’m so excited. Fifteen great carts open from morning to night and now with refreshments. North Station is located at N Killingsworth and Greeley.

The Mississippi Street fair is Saturday and will be the largest one yet. Last year, they estimated 15,000 people wandered down the north Portland street throughout the day and night. I have had the joy of watching Mississippi Ave turn from a boarded up blight in the late 90′s to a thriving street full of small businesses and restaurants. In 2009, Mississippi Marketplace opened with 10 food carts including some of Portland’s rock stars. With Mississippi Marketplace and PROST!, the German pub at one end, and the BBQ throwdown at the other end, I foresee 2010 being one of the largest fairs to date. Numerous carts will be in attendance along with the carts that live on Mississippi including the Voodoo Doughnut truck and PBJ’s Grilled.

Today, Friday, downtown Portland gets introduced to a new cart that has been open for a year now. The Frying Scotsman is moving from their NW location to SW 9th and Alder. Fish and Chip fans rejoice. Oh, and all you deep fried Mars bars fans will get your fix too.

New carts in the last week:

  • Sweet Wheels – cupcakes – roaming around, follow them on Twitter for location: @sweetwheelspdx
  • Happy Grillmore – new burger and sandwich cart at SW 3rd and Stark

Happy Carting.

So, I scoured the SW 9th and Alder pod today looking for the new location of the Frying Scotsman with no luck?
