Memorial Day Weekend

As you know, we have a holiday weekend ahead along with the opening of the Rose Festival Waterfront Village down at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. There are plenty of activities going on this weekend in and around the city and it is the unofficial start of summer. I’m excited because I get a 4 day weekend.

Many of the carts will probably keep their regular hours this weekend – especially those carts on the east side in the neighborhood. Where we’ll probably see some closures are for the carts that cater to the lunch crowd downtown on Monday. Portland will be a ghost town that day, so some owners will decide to not open. Earlier in the week, we put out a call to carts to see who will be open or closed. Here’s what we got back:

  • Big-Ass Sandwiches on SW 3rd and Ash will be open Friday 11am-4pm & 11pm-3am, Saturday 12pm-4pm & 11pm-3am. Closed Sunday & Monday.
  • GIN Northern Thai on SW 3rd and Washington will be open Memorial Day, 1oam to Sunset
  • Namu, a newer cart on SE 33rd and Hawthorne serving pulled pork sandwiches will be open all weekend 11am-7pm
  • Whiffies and the carts at Cartopia will be open their regular hours Friday and Saturday nights at SE 12th and Hawthorne

Not a lot of response, but many carts still aren’t using Twitter and Facebook to get the word out. I would say most carts who normally cater to weekend traffic will be open. Go out, try something new and enjoy.
