The Story:
There was a time North Portland offered little in the way of food cart options. There was often a forlorn roaming taco truck or two serving the industrial areas of Columbia Blvd and Marine Drive and a couple of fly by night BBQ trailers, but outside of the Mexican cart on Killingsworth and Interstate NoPo was a cart wasteland. Visionaries like Jr Ambassadors and especially Flavourspot lead the way to the North Portland pods and carts now popping up like mushrooms in the wet Oregon woods. We really tip our hat to Flavourspot who had the foresight to know several years ago that food carts were a genius business model and that waffles + North Portland would equal something inexpensive and wonderful for Portland diners.
Now we have Wicked Waffles in the North Station cart pod on the corner of N Killingsworth and Greeley. Wicked has already received lots of positive press, and indeed owner Jeanne Subotnick is well known by Portlanders for her Shakers Cafe in the Pearl District and other restaurant endeavors. Everyone and their son it seems have now finally caught onto the food cart trend.
Wicked Waffles is indeed a mother and son team that serves, you guessed it, waffles. Yet, WW has their own twist in the waffle game with different kinds of batters such as Oatmeal Raisin or Blue Corn. No Ms. Butterworth or House of Pancake type toppings here. Expect high quality and careful preparation with seasonal fruits and jams, and house made syrups. Wicked Waffles also serves up eggs and sausage with their waffles creating a full meal deal. It looks like there’s another alternative for breakfast in the area when the brunch lines at places like Little Red Bike or Gravy are too swamped.
When I visited, America and the world were in the final days of the 2010 Winter Olympics and per Wicked Waffle’s plans, they offered up “The Maple Leaf, Eh?,” a vanilla bean waffle wrapped around a savory pork sausage patty and scrambled eggs. Tasty. Since then, they have offered up other daily specials including a St. Patrick’s day special of a waffle with corned beef and cabbage.
Some might wonder, in a city with plenty of food carts, breakfast joints and an area of town with two waffle carts already, is there really room for a third? Time will tell, but we do know there is always room for more good, inexpensive food in Portland. Wicked Waffles is open daily and the pod offers indoor seating for rainy days. When you visit, and I know you will, let them know Food Carts Portland sent ya.

Hello! I am a North Portlander in love with the new community of food carts at N. Greely and Killingsworth. I’ve been a flavourspot junkie for years and am excited to try WW. Thanks for the objective review.
Waffles on St. Patrick’s Day!!! Special was waffles made with Guinness, filled with reduction of caramel with fresh strawberries and, of course, whipped cream. Delicious–and a real treat on a holiday. I’ll be back to try some other waffles.
I never knew the waffle could do so much. Every waffle combo I have tried has been awesome at WW. Feels and eats like a complete meal and always served in a easy to carry wrapped option.
Great for on the go. It is one of our quick breakfast stops.
We’re trying it tomorrow morning – CAN’T WAIT!!!
B, D & B
Open for Easter Breakfast! I got the chicken sausage with scrambled egg wrapped up in the vanilla waffle for $7, it was served like a gyro, very portable and no mess! Delicious and LOTS of sausage, a manly meal!
I’ll go again..
Hands down, WW is the BEST waffle cart in Portland! We went there one lazy Sunday for a Biscuit Waffle with their to-die-for gravy. (We’d read about them in the FoodDay) It was definitely a meal. The gravy was so much more than water and flour — it was loaded with sausage and bacon AND flavor! We havent’ been back yet because we live in Gresham but we will be very soon. Now we look for reasons to visit NoPo just so we can get to this cart. If one waffle was this good, we can’t wait to try some of their other offerings!
Thank you, Wicked Waffles. In our opinions, you ROCK! … Now if you’d just stay open a little later….
We live in Kenton and are very excited about the new carts. Like other posters, we have been a fan of Flavour Spot for some time now. But these waffles at Wicked take it to another level! Sausage, gravy, eggs- in the waffle! And don’t forget to grab a chocolate strawberry one for dessert.
We hope to try the rest of the carts soon, because they look incredible too.
Tried Wicked this morning for the first time. Sorry to be the dissenting opinion but my experience didn’t match the others reported. Had the Waffle n Gravy and added bacon and eggs. Eggs were nuked, bacon is warmed up in one of the irons and had a strange chemical aftertaste and the waffle had flecks of burnt carbon all over it. The sausage in the gravy was not bad. SO had the Wicked Perfect which also suffered from the carbon flecks, nuked egg, and strange bacon..Not enough to convince me to switch from Flavourspot although Wicked’s sausage is much better.
On Sunday, I had my 5th venture to Wicked Waffles and ordered the WickedPerfect. It was delicious. After reading GDub’s review above (which also appears on Yelp), about the burnt carbon, I almost didn’t go back to Wicked Waffles after my first visit. I’m glad I went back. I have tried FlavourSpot a few times as well. Their waffles are fine but very boring (basically just cooked waffle batter with standard toppings) and overpriced compared to Wicked’s. Can you get a waffle titled ‘The Kentucky Derby’ with bourbon syrup at Flavourspot’s? Nope! I think that could easily be my reason enough to keep going back to Wicked’s!
Their waffles are wicked good, though I don’t think the maple syrup is the real deal . . . I know an impostor when I taste one. I’m happy to pay more $$ for real maple syrup and don’t think that a waffle shack should serve anything but . . .
One of my first food cart experiences in Portland, and I am hooked. However, the sample menu on this website needs to be updated. Most of the waffles listed here are not available anymore, and the prices have gone up! WW has some amazing specials though, definitely worth a stop if you are nearby!
Meh. The waffles are OK (if you haven’t given up waiting for them and asked for your $ back as I seem to see often), but the prices are ridiculous for a waffle. Been here three times, the first time my ’10 minute wait’ become 30 minutes. Gave them a 2nd try and my quoted 15 was just about 15. Third time brought a buddy who was in town from Hawaii to try Stumptown at Blend and grab a waffle, our 15 minute wait was 45+. Needless to say our coffees were long gone before we got our waffles, and they didn’t even get the order right on first try. Done with this amateur joint.
Gotta say my service was good and the BLT waffle was pretty damn tasty. I think people have gotten so used to ‘fast’ food that handmade creations like these take a little more time. Keep in mind folks these people are making these meals in a remote location in a trailer. Sit back relax and enjoy the time for a break. I would stop here again for sure.
