[...] 2009 – a Food Cart Bonanza at Food Carts Portland It has been an amazing year for Portland’s food carts. While the country dealt with a horrific recession, Portland’s carts seemed to not be affected by the economic decline with an expansion of something like 30%. I joined up here at Food Carts Portland just before the beginning of 2009 and am honored to have taken over as the editor of the site. [...]

Oh, and don't forget KoiFusion - Portland's first roving gourmet Korean Taco truck branching off the K-Taco movement (as it is actually called) that Koji started in LA. Even though caveat, I worked for them in the real world so I'm a bit prejudiced, Koi did make a huge splash quickly - gaining fans and long lines and I am so proud of their success. Koi also really led the idea of roaming carts in Portland, as most here are stationary. Way to go Koi!

It was indeed a terrific year for the carts, and I am pleased as punch at the hard work, creativity and passion of Dieselboi in taking over the daily management and other activities of the site for me. It was a really difficult decision on what to do with the site now that I'm only in PDX every few months. I had many a sleepless night wondering what to do. I didn't want to shut the site down, but didn't want to just have anyone take it over. So thank you, thank you thank, you Dieselboi and everyone else who continues to make this site grow. I am excited to still be involved and work mostly "behind the scenes", but feel free to connect with me anytime through the contact form.

It was also a huge feather in my cap to be in the New York Times this year (kind of a lifelong goal), and have to say I was not prepared for the amount of media attention on a national level Portland's well deserved food carts (and this site) received.

But the biggest surprise was both the growth of the cart scene and the growth of the "cart community" of cart fans. It's truly mind blowing.
