Stella's
Location: SW 3rd and Stark
Description:
Over the past three weeks, I have seen this new cart go from drab white with yellow splotches to bright green with awnings, wondering the entire time what the owners have in store for us. Last week, I got a glimpse at the menu posted in the windows and became excited. Stella’s on Stark is now open and serving up some tasty bites.
We arrived, not intentionally, on day one. Right there, through the window were Alan and Teresa, the owners, welcoming us for lunch. Stella’s offers an interesting mix of burgers, including a veggie burger and other sandwiches. Being Friday is “burger Friday” for me, I scanned the offerings and decided upon the NWCP. Not sure what NWCP stand for, but I think it should be named “everyone we have put on a burger and tasty….”
The NWCP was a burger topped with caramelized onion, bacon, wild mountain mushrooms, provalone, cheddar and blue cheese. I kinda missed reading that all that was on there, so was surprised at how monster the meal was. I saw bacon and cheese and that is usually all I need to get me excited about a burger. When Alan handed me the meal in a large paper bag, he stated it was a “fork burger.” Having never heard that term, I asked what he meant. All he said, with a wry smile…”you’ll see.” The burger was great. Massive and unwielding, but great. The three cheeses were intense and the mushrooms, along with the burger were enough to feed a small army. While I did start out with the fork, I soon evaluated my napkin supply and dove in with both hands. One think that stood out was the bacon. First, a great choice of bacon and second, plenty of it. A good burger.
Stella’s on Stark is now open for lunch on the weekdays and is planning to be open late night on the weekends to sate the downtown bar crowd. Over the weekend, I did see some post on Twitter stating that they were actually open into the night and serving up their signature dishes. Check out Stella’s if you are hungry and want a new twist on a burger and tell them Food Carts Portland sent ya.

I had a delicious concoction called the “TONY” I have to say, the thing was INCREDIBLE! The combination of yummi items (braut with, peppers, cheese, delicious sauce, and an over medium egg, and lots of delicious other treats) that were mixed together made it incomparable to pretty much anywhere else. AND the portions are huge.
This is a place you gotta try!
i had the garaj mahal and split it with my girlfriend and we were both satisfied. so many yummy flavors, it’s like a meal with buns. all the better to sop up the yummy curry sauce. thank you!
My wife and I had the breakfast burrito this morning after hearing about it on twitter. This burrito, by the way, should be called the “Monster”. Growing up in New Mexico I consider myself somewhat of a burrito aficionado, especially breakfast burritos. So I usually don’t get my hopes up when I hear “breakfast burrito” around here being that they usually don’t stack up in size or taste. But this burrito was not only large and delicious, it was unique in its sauce and the way the contents were prepared. I could go on and on about it, but all I have to say is give it a shot, but bring your apatite because this thing is a mouthful. And to Stella’s I have to say, advertise this thing! I couldn’t believe it wasn’t listed on the menu. Let’s promote this Juggernaut!
I hear Stella is quite a gal, but the food is the star here. I, too had never heard if a “fork burger”, but it’s apparent that is the only way to get into this baby! Maybe someone in New Orleans will follow this guy’s lead away from wimpy “health food” Portland used to like.

I can see the comment I tried to leave yesterday is still missing so I’ll try this again! I hate to break up the lovefest for Stellas on Stark, but my eating experience there yesterday was less than stella(r).
As I am a veggie I tried their only fully veg offering the Garaj Mahal. The so-called ‘patty’ was an overcooked mush-cake of garbanzo which had no flava. The “caramelized” veggie melange was more like briefly sauteed crunchy fennel along with sparse but well cooked peppers and onions. The greens and tomato were both fresh and tasty. The curry aioli was out of control. It had been liberally squirted atop the greens and it went EVERYWHERE. Tip: if you apply it to the bun or patty, it may goosh out the side, but at least it won’t be a complete mess!
Perhaps carnivores have reason to cry, “STELLA!” at the top of their lungs, but the Garaj Mahal sucked a bit.
Well sorry to you that you feel that way, i don’t really comment on people but you need to get happy and eat some meat.thank you for your input but as you can see the Garaj Mahal is staying and will forever for the happy people of this world.PEACE Veg Head
You need to go hook up with the Matt guy who went off on Big Ass Sandwich and maybe you all kind find a peace of food happiness in some Veg Meat cafe on another planet….I will stick up for us all as i know what we all cook..Peace vegi Sister
Someone drunk posting for Stellas? One hopes so.
If you can’t take the heat, get out of the cart.
I have not tried Stella’s, but from the reply to the veg that was not happy, it seems that attacking the customer for their food choices may be detrimental to biz…if you are down on vegetarians, don’t offer a veggie option, and they will stay away.
Wow: Can that hors douvres plastic fork sustain a dive into that “Fork Burger”? I’m bringing my Boy Scout cutlery. I wouldn’t want a single bite to land on the pavement!
First time at Stellas for me today. Very friendly staff, cute cart, great prices. Unfortunately, the sandwich was just not that great. Pulled pork was way overcooked and flavorless.
I also had the Drive By Trucker today! It was amazing. The pulled pork was seasoned perfectly, the veggies and the hoagie were grilled just right. The cheese and the aioli made the sandwich juicy. Not sure what went wrong with your’s Larry. Try it again! I have had it twice now. I will return for more.
Tuesday is The Jumbo Green Apple n Pulled Chicken Queso w Blue Cheese, & Red Onion – AMAZINGLY GOOD! Sooo filing – I am a big eater and I could only eat half for fear of falling into a food coma at my desk.
I first have to admit I am related to the chef so you can take this review with a grain of salt. I got home from work today to find his Jumbo Green Apple n Pulled Chicken Queso w Blue Cheese and Red Onion dish. For me, he put it into a flour tortilla. It was truly yummy. I love apples and chicken together and rolled up in a tortilla made it light and delicious. So if you go by the cart and this is a special ask him to make it on a tortilla! Don’t tell him I told you to do that.
I just got back from Stella’s for the first time, got one of their chicken hoagies.. wow.. that was intense. They weren’t wrong when they said I’d need the knife and fork, I couldn’t start the actual sandwich until I’d eaten some off the top, even then it was a chore just to close the thing. Melt in your mouth goodness, I’ll definitely be back.. Thanks!
Had the Drive by Trucker today, OMG this Huge sammy got my heart going for the pork. Thank you for delivering a full and warm feeling to my soul today.
Good God!! That Garaj Mahal is the absolute BEST veggie burger I have ever had in my life. As a vegetarian, even I sometimes get a hankering for a big, beefy burger and nothing ever seems to compare, but now I know I’ll always have you guys to feed that craving! Perfect texture and LOTS of flavor! I’ll definitely be back.
WoW!! Just took my first ever bite, the Stella Blue! Orgasmically good! Speciaally requested some of the pickled jalepenos, and Oh! Oh! Oh! Ahhhh! I will be back! Some of the other listings look enticing!
