dosirak lunch cart
Location: SW 4th and Hall
Description:
A coworker and I needed something hearty for lunch and wanted to try something new. We saw the shiny yellow cart named dosirak and decided to give it a try. Talk about simple ordering. This cart offers up one dish and one dish only – marinated chicken over rice with a salad and some dumplings called mandoos. That’s it. The cart is aptly named – dosirak translates to lunchbox.
The “lunchbox” comes with a generous portion of sticky white rice covered with amazing marinated charbroiled chicken and a couple of mandoo (little dumplings.) The salad has a unique miso flavored dressing that is perfectly matched with the chicken. The lunch was great. A perfect portion with great tastes and wonderfully simple. I especially like the mandoo as they had a texture and flavor that melted in your mouth.
If you’re out looking for a new take on marinated chicken and rice, visit dosirak and tell them Food Carts Portland sent ya.
Menu:
- The Lunchbox: marinated chicken charbroiled to perfection; fresh green salad with miso dressing and mandoo (little dumplings – $6
- Mandoo (dumplings) – small order 6 pieces – $3; large order 10 pieces – $4

I stopped here for lunch a few weeks ago, drawn in by the free sample. Honestly, I wasn’t as impressed as this review. I liked the salad, especially the dressing. And the dumplings were great. But, I thought that their chicken was covered with sauce that was very sickly sweet and just had too much sugar with not enough bitter or sour flavors. All in all it wasn’t terrible, but given the great options in the PSU pod (Vietnamese! Afro-Caribbean! Mexican!), this wouldn’t be in my top 5.
mandoo is the korean word for “potsticker” “gyoza”
i wish I could click on the photos and view a larger version. it’s hard to tell from these wee little thumbnails what is what.
Gustoeater,
Try now. I didn’t realize those weren’t linking out to the original. Thanks for the heads up.
My only suggestion is that you ask them to go light on the sauce. Otherwise, filling and tasty.
My wife and I ate there this past weekend and really enjoyed the meal. You can get brown rice, too, and I was pleasantly surprised that it was served sticky, Asian style.
Unlike some previous commenters, I really enjoyed the chicken. It was perfectly tender, and the sauce — while, yes, sweet — was great. The dumplings were very tasty, too. I might have enjoyed the salad more, but it was basically iceberg lettuce (miso sauce or no), which I just don’t enjoy.
The owner is a very nice guy, pleasant to talk to while you’re waiting for your order.
hi dieselboy! thanks for posting this.
i’m the owner’s daughter and this made me super happy. i was wondering if i could steal your pictures of dosirak and post them on the yelp website? i would take the pictures myself but i’m all the way in korea right now.
please let me know. thank you again for posting such a nice review. <3 thank you, thank you, THANK YOU.

[...] or taco salad from Chopollos, or a pulled pork sandwich from the Q cart, or the teriyaki from Dosirak’s. I just wish there were more carts in my area and that I had time to go further everyday and try [...]
I was starving and on my way home when I thought I would do the “loop” around the block. Dosirak was the only cart open so with a parking spot right in front open I pulled in. I was the last one for the night so he really hooked me up on a nice size order. I care more about the flavor and when I got home what should have been two or three meals I could not stop eatiing it was so good. Oh I forgot, I got brown rice as I do everywhere and this was by far the best brown rice Ive ever had. Super clean cart, super clean food. The dressing was not thick too like I like it. Perfect Terryaki IMO- cool dude too.
Grabbed a quick box on the way to OHSU. Had a nice overhang to wait in the rain. Did a real nice job. Yes, the sauce is sweet but I didn’t think it was overpowering. Great mandoo, and I know my mandoo. Wish that they had a Korean spicy pork option because I’m sure they can do a wonderful version.
감사합니다
I eat at Dosirak once a week without fail and would probably do so for the rest of my life if they agree to stay in business and keep things as simple and delicious as they are right now. One of the cleanest and friendliest carts I’ve seen anywhere and definitely one of the easiest to order at. None of that would matter if it wasn’t good but did I mention that I eat there once a week without fail and would probably do so for the rest of my life?
I think that sums it up.
I love this place a lot!
Foods are great and price is very reasonable.
I would recommend to anyone who loves teriyaki!
Now I finally found the place to eat around PSU area.
