Description:
Located just east of busy 82nd Avenue in the Lents neighborhood, El Nutri is a perennial SE neighborhood favorite for both authentic and more American-Mexican fusion taco truck fare; the convenient hours for lunch, dinner until 10PM and Saturdays; and very decent prices. The recent addition of a large, comfortable deck and tables and chairs on the patio makes this a nice respite sit-down for lunch or dinner when the weather is dry. In addition, El Nutri, unlike most “authentic” homespun taco trucks, even has their own website. Hurrah for taco trucks with websites!

Standard, but far better than average tacos and burritos of all kinds are made with fresh homemade tortillas, and are supplemented by specials such as huaraches, tortas (including a sloppy lick-smacking Cubana made with a whole mess of meats such as chicken or ham, egg, refried beans, avocado, lettuce, pickled jalapenos and cheeses), and a ham and cheese quesadilla.

The Lengua (tongue), and Desebrada (shredded beef) are standouts for those who love carne. All of the meats I’ve tried are tender and melt-in-your-mouth, the way they should be.
Don’t worry though; vegans and vegetarians will be pleasantly pleased at offerings such as tofu, soyrizo, vegetarian beans, and lots of fresh vegetables. El Nurti even offers soy mayo and other vegan condiments.
It’s this kind of attention to detail that makes El Nutri special. Food comes on nice plates with real silverware, not plastic. The patio is kept clean. The servers go out of their way to accommodate questions and special request. There is even a kids menu with smaller portioned, lower priced quesadillas, sopes and the the like.
I do have to tell you all a funny story though, one that for me only adds to the appeal of El Nutri. The neighborhood the truck is located in is by no means bad, it’s simply a “keeping it real” working class Portland ‘hood and not the trendy squeaky clean, boutique-ville we’ve come to witness in many areas West of 82nd Ave. That said, the last time I ate at El Nutri, there was a scene in the small apartment complex across the street that was like a cross between watching Shakespeare in the Park and an episode of Cops: wife beater t-shirts, angry woman throwing things out the upstairs window, and Bitchin’ Camero included.
Viva El Nutri! Viva the Lents Neighborhood! Viva food for the people!

It’s nice that they use real plates and silverware. One of the main reasons I’ve cut back on food carts, is all the disposables that go along with them: plastic forks, plastic bags, plastic or foam containers, etc. I will have to check this cart out…
Anna–I’ve found a lot of carts will let you use your own containers, or re-use ones from them. Definitely helps. Not always practicable, but at least at your regular haunts it’s worth asking.
This cart has a good vegan side to their menu and makes seriously good vegan Tortas!
I love the grilled burrito!
Aren’t they on NE Alberta now? Is that a second locale? I had an incredible tofu torta there.
