NewsCart NewsCart

I have some news to report in the land of foodcarts:

There are two new “pods” being opened in North Portland in the near future.

On N Williams and Shaver, they will be developing a spot for 3 carts.  I also understand the space may offer some sort of indoor seating.  Rumor needs to be confirmed once carts have opened. If you would like to contact the developer, please contact me and I’ll pass it on.

The second pod, called Mississippi Marketplace is to be located at the corner of N. Mississippi and Skidmore where an old church was recently remodeled.  The corner lot has a large open space where Tita’s Pista used to call home. According to Mississippi Marketplace’s site, they will be striving for a sustainable lot with a focus on recycling and the use of recyclable containers. I love that they have a mission statement. I also love that it will be just a few blocks from my house. All the information about the site is on their website.

There is a cart for sale down at SW 4th and College. That location has exploded in the last 6 months with new carts opening once a week. The For Sale sign on the cart states $10,000 and to contact Amanda, 503 750 4904. I understand from the comments that this cart is sold. Thanks.

Willamette Week is doing their yearly Best of Portland Reader’s poll.  This is your chance to let Portland know what your favorite FoodCart is in the city.  Check out the poll here.

That’s it. If I hear more, I’ll pass it on. This week takes me to some old favorites to check in and see that our info is current. See you out at the carts.

I’m very much looking forward to Director Park’s completion to see what carts end up there…

i also am anxious about some cart action on skidmore/miss. (crosses fingers for an indian cart.) today they have really torn up the lot and are doing tons of landscaping prep.

fwiw, if people are looking for food carts to buy, craigslist probably has around 10 a week (some repeats, sure) up for grabs. just for kicks, i watch this rss feed: http://portland.craigslist.org/search/sss?query=food%20cart&format=rss

That Mexican cart was sold and is already open as Asaase Ital, an all veg Afro-Caribbean cart! I ate lunch there today and it was great.

I don’t know anything food cart related, but I do know that N Williams and Shaver is the location that the old Cyan leasing office is supposed to be moved to. It’s been fully deconstructed here on 4th, so I don’t know where it’s at now. It be kind of cool if it had anything to do with the carts, but sad if it’s going to displace them.

Whoa, vegetarian Afro-Caribbean? Any hints on menu? Have to try that out!

I had the “red-red”, black-eyed peas in spiced tomato sauce with fried plantains and cassava grits. It was actually a pasty consistency, and really dense, but different and tasty. They do a couple combos like that – there were some lentil/bean and leafy green curries, they have a tofu scramble breakfast with potatoes and “Fry Bake” – little puffs of fried bread it looked like. Sambusas, peanut soup, and palm nut soup. The small curry plate was $6 and the large was $9.

And jerk chick-un, of course. :) They are kind of in a bad spot in the corner of the lot – so go show them some love!

not exactly food-cart related (sorry), but apparently this is what is going to go into the *building* at skidmore/mississippi, to be surrounded by (hopefully) many carts:

if you are to trust the giant posters in the windows there, anyway. haha

@devlyn — sorry to disappoint, but there won’t be food carts at Director Park. The owner of Roux in N PDX is opening a restaurant there though called Violetta. I think there will be a lot of outdoor seating, so it will be a nice spot to eat food cart lunches in.
