Sawasdee Thai

Food Carts Portland

Location: SW 9th and Alder

Description: Sawasdee is one of the oldest, and one of the most popular Thai carts on the scene, simply because they are so good. Fresh ingredients, big portions and a deft touch give them balanced and satisfying offerings. Where some Thai carts go a bit overboard with the soy and grease, Sawasdee has a lighter touch.

Sawasdee makes standards like red, yellow and green curries, fried rice, noodle dishes and stir fries. They also are one of the few Thai carts to offer both white or brown rice. I’m particularly fond of their fried rice with pineapple and cashew.

Oh, and they are often open on Saturdays!

  1. My favorite Thai food cart in the city! Thanks for mentioning it…

  2. I would say this is my fave Thai cart, too, of the ones I’ve tried. Less of a gut bomb/oil blob. My favorite dish is their pumpkin curry – it’s on the specials menu, I think, but it seems to be there most of the time, and they use kabocha squash, which is this lovely sweet-meltiness in contrast with the spicy curry.

Ate here today for the 1st time…spicy eggplant from the specials board. YUM!!! Love the brown rice option, too. Salad rolls were unremarkable, but entree was great, and very friendly and fast!

The Shrimp Pad Kee Mao is delicious!
