Thai Sky

Thai_Sky.JPG

Location: SW 5th and Oak/Stark Parking Lot

Description: This was the first cart to offer Thai food at the 5th and Oak/Stark food cart parking lot. Even though there are now many other Thai carts, the very friendly owners Jenny and Nu still do a good business. Rather than making each order from scratch, they offer a choice of about 8 different selections from a warming table (though you can order soups and fried rice dishes that are made to order). This makes a visit to the cart very convenient if you are in a hurry. Even a line of people 7-10 deep will get served quickly.

The menu changes daily but is pretty consistent for each day of the
week. A special slot on Friday has something different each week. The
dishes are about half meat and half vegetarian, with at least one
coconut based curry. The choices always include Pad Thai, usually in
both chicken and tofu varieties.

The food is very good and authentic. Some may say that there are other
carts that make you wait as they cook your food to order that are a
little bit better, but that is no reason not to enjoy Thai Sky’s
offerings. Recommended dishes are Cashew Chicken or Red Curry Chicken
on Mondays, Pineapple Fried Rice that is always available to
order, and the very spicy Jungle Curry that sometimes fills the
wildcard slot on Fridays.

  1. Wow – One of the food carts I have actually eaten at. I thought the portion size was good, and was happy that the dish I ordered(Pad Kee Mao) had some real “zing” to it……

  2. Great call on this one. This place is better than most Thai restaurants in town. While the noodle dishes are better than average, I think the curries are where these guys really shine. I think I’ve tried everything they have at least once and can find no real weaknesses.
Having a party? Thai Sky would be happy to cater it…I’ve asked!

  3. It’s starting to feel like fall now, so I will return to my favorite dish Tom Yum Noodle Soup, if you like it spicy and hot it’s the best. Great for stuffy noses and colds.

  4. And they are nice! Just great people.

  5. ONE DOLLAR thai ice tea! And good too! WOW! Get the peanut curry sauce with tofu. Delicious.

  6. I’ve been going here for almost 3 years. By far the best peanut curry (tuesdays) I’ve ever had. $5, enormous portions, really good food, Super nice people, and yes, the line moves fast! I love this cart!

    Two complaints:
#1 The portion is huge and I have a hard time not eating it all.
#2 They aren’t open on the weekends.

  7. Counter to the original review, Thai Sky does cook up their delicious Yakisoba noodles fresh to order. The dish, available with chicken, tofu, or simply with veggies, combines the freshness and flavors of authentic Japanese street noodles. I eat these nearly once per week, always sure to bring my own reusable container. I cannot praise this noodle dish enough. It’s better than anything I’ve had (in terms of noodles) at any other cart in town.

Their other dishes, as mentioned, are served up buffet style, giving you a quick grab-and-go option. I recommend the pumpkin curry (on special when available), as well as their either of their coconut-based soups.

  8. AMAZING cart. Love their food. My favorite is the coconut milk soup.

  9. I’m a long-time customer — dropped by today and found that the cart apparently has been sold. The “Thai Sky” sign is gone and there’s new staff. I didn’t realize until too late, and got an insipid serving of yellow curry that was 80% potatoes…you know, because I don’t get enough starch in my diet. I wonder what happened to the Thai Sky couple?
