La Chiquita
Location: N Killingsworth and N Interstate
Description: A recent name change (from Tres Hermanos) and a location upgrade to a busy corner intersection, make La Chiquita more popular than it used to be. Food is fairly straightforward here; burritos, tacos, sopes, etc. Although the burritos aren’t all that special, they are filling, however one would be better off getting one of their tender tacos ($1.50) served on a hot, fresh, billowy house-made tortilla. La Chiquita also has a nice touch with the way they prepare their meats and fresh salsas. Another nice thing is that they have a few covered tables so take out is not mandatory.

Hours can be a little sporadic, as can the service which can alternate between perfectly pleasant and efficient to bewildered or slowwwww (although they have gotten a lot better in recent weeks). Heck though, for food this good and with these prices, I’m not complaining too much.
Hours: (warning due to change all the time for no apparent reason) Generally 10:30 or 11AM – 5PM or 6PM Mon-Sat. Always closed on Sunday.

i thought there food was gross, but i only had a burrito, maybe the tacos are better?
their, sorry
Gross?? Wow – you must have gone on a bad day or something. I ate there a couple of weeks ago and thought it was great. I didn’t have a burrito however, I had tacos.
I had the spicy beef, the beef cheek (cabeza) and the beef tongue (lengua) tacos all served on soft, double tortilles (which is a nice touch). Only $1.50 each, and all really good. All freshly made, with terrific spice and herb notes. Pickled veggies come as a side for free, and they have a bunch of salsas/sauces to choose from.
I’ll be back for sure.
Janet, I thought heir burrito’s were kinda gross too. But the tacos? DELICIOUS!!!
wow. wow, no way!!! tacos, burritos, sopes, ect. i’ve had all and man they’re awesome, you must have gone like in a really bad day. plus they always have fresh sauses and vegies that you can help your self with for free. there’s also a place on 82nd right next to safeway and they got some really good tacos too.
The best test of a roach coach is if the Mexicans are eating there. I went to La Chiquita yesterday for lunch and hijole, there was a table of 3 young latino dudes chowing down on tacos, complete with sangria in the bottle.
I got a carne asada burrito: delicious salty carne asada, complete with fatty, gristly chunks, just like it ought to be. They do it Oregon style though, substituting some of the meat for rice, and the rice was somewhat mushy, point deductions for that. The Aguacate (guacamole) was perfect on top.
I shared a table with Arturo from Cuernavaca, Morelos. He had been there before while working a tilesetting job up the street and came all the way from Clackamas on his day off! That’s what I call voting with your gas money. Arturo recommended the consomme (beef broth). I’m having that next time.
Viva La Chiquita! Yes, the meats are a bit too salty, which is part of the deal with most Mexican food, but so what? The flavors are out of this world, and the tortillas are “hecho a mano”, soft, toothsome and delicious.
Personally, love their burritos. Normal burrito cart ingredients, (rice, beans, onion, etc) Somehow they get the ingredients all mixed up and the cheese melted inside the burrito. Must put everything on the grill first. Awesome cheesy, meaty goodness. They have really good red sauce too. Don’t know if it’s out of a can, but it’s creamy?
You people complaining about the burritos must not eat at a lot of burrito carts. I’ve eaten a lot of dried out, day old ingredients, gamey meat, burritos off carts (and in taquerias), but never had a bad burrito here yet. All in all, one of the top burrito carts in town!
