Dreamers – Vegetarian Food

[Closed as of August 2009]

Location: SW 5th and Oak/Stark

Description: Vegetarian and Vegan food only, including things like baked potatoes, “meatballs”, sandwiches, french fries and pretty good falafel.

The only thing about this cart is that, well, the aesthetic might freak some people out. Like many a good cart, the focus is on the food and not the decor. Also, hope you like the Grateful Dead, because I guarantee that’s the music that will be serenading you from the speakers as you wait for your food.

The owner of this cart is very nice.

Sample Menu:

Not-Chicken Parmesan Sub -$5.00

Pan Fried Cheese Sub – $4.00

Giant Falafel (their words not mine) – $4.00

Buffalo Tofu Sub – $4.50

Hours: Mon -Fri Lunchtime Hours

Phone: Unkown

Website: None

I had a veggie burger ($5.50) there the other day and it was full of win. It’s hand-made and falafel-esque as it uses chickpea flour to keep the patty together, but it’s mixed with fresh edamame and other veggies too. Comes on multigrain bread with lettuce, tomato, & garlic tahini. It was big and delicious. A nice alternative to frozen, sodium-rich store-bought veggie patties.

Their buffalo tufu wrap had me in sensational tears one day. The man asked me “How hot you want it?” I said “Pretty hot.” POW! Browsweat. A really good spot for lunch. Although not a big fan of the jam band ambiance…

  3. dave says:

love this place, yes he does place jam band rock, but if you’re sitting at the table across from the cart you dont’ really hear it. the food is phenomenal, really good falafel and bbq tofu.

I go here at least once a week and have yet to be disappointed by anything he’s made. The fries are some of the better ones I’ve tasted and his falafels are also tasty. My favorite though is a bbq tempeh & buffalo tofu melt. He knows I like spicy food, so he’ll usually add extra spice to it. Very nice guy too.

  5. Cass says:

Whoa! That BBQ sauce on my tempeh is spicy! A good, huge sandwich, though I wish I’d got the melt, because I prefer BBQ tempeh with cheese.

This place has been closed for 2-3 weeks now. Anyone know what’s up?

as of august 13th, it’s still closed… this is/was one of my favorite carts, I hope it opens again, been checking it on lunch breaks a few times a week…

    bbq tempeh/buffalo tofu wrap forever.

Sorry to hear this place is closed. I ate there regularly, off and on over the past couple years, but haven’t been there in a few months.

Great guy that ran the place, I’ll miss this cart. Never got to try everything I wanted to try there, but the fries were always some of the best in town. Perfect, in fact!
